Aquascaping tools: tweezers, scissors and spatulas
The basics for planting, trimming and arranging a planted aquarium: which tools to use, in what steel and what size.

The basic kit
A simple kit has three kinds of tool:
- Straight and curved tweezers: to plant and place small plants, stones and wood.
- Straight, curved and spring scissors: curved ones work well on carpets; spring ones tire the hand less on long trims.
- A spatula: to level the substrate.
Steel and finish
Stainless steel (304 or 316) is the standard for good tools; carbon steel rusts unless it is dried after use. A simple test: leave the tool wet overnight — if rust shows in the morning, the quality is poor.
Which length?
Choose tools at least as long as the height of the tank (25–27 cm suits most). Fine tips and a good spring give precision without tiring the hand.
Care
Rinse in clean water and dry after each use, without detergent, and store in a dry place.
